Publishing to Notion

Getting articles into Notion is straightforward. Serving your public blog from Notion is a separate decision, and a harder one to defend.

Published to NotionLive
  • Body, headings and internal links
  • Meta title & description
  • JSON-LD structured data
  • Canonical URL & a named author
  • Featured image with alt text

Every article, formatted for Notion — nothing to paste.

Connecting Notion

Live in a few minutes.

  1. Step 1

Decide what Notion is for in this setup

There are two coherent answers and they lead to different builds.

  2. Step 2

Create the destination database and freeze its schema

Build a database with explicit properties rather than relying on Notion's defaults: a title, a slug as plain text, a status select, a meta description, a multi-select for tags, an author reference, and a URL property for the featured image.

  3. Step 3

Choose the transport: webhook or Zapier

Point the project at the webhook destination and write a receiver that verifies the request, then calls Notion's API to create a page in your database.

  4. Step 4

Solve the body conversion before you send real articles

    Notion does not store HTML.

  5. Step 5

Decide where the JSON-LD goes and accept that Notion will not render it

The Article, BreadcrumbList and any FAQPage or HowTo graphs arrive with the publish event as JSON.

  6. Step 6

Run one article end to end, then set the autopilot mode

Put the project in approve-each mode and push a single article through the whole path: publish event, receiver or Zap, Notion page created, properties populated, body readable.

What lands where

Every field maps cleanly.

SEOPulserNotion
  • Article title and slugThe database title property, plus a text property you define
  • Article bodyNotion blocks, converted from Markdown
  • Meta description and excerptText properties on the database row
  • Featured image and alt textPage cover, or a URL property
  • Author entityA text or relation property, not the Notion creator
  • TagsA multi-select property
  • JSON-LD graphsA text or code block, for storage only
  • Publish statusA status or select property you drive yourself

Worth knowing first

The honest limitations.

Every destination constrains something. These are the ones worth knowing before you commit a content program to Notion.

  • There is no first-party Notion connector, so the reliability of this path is yours.
  • Notion controls the document head on pages shared to the web.
  • Public Notion pages are heavily client-rendered and carry a substantial JavaScript payload.
  • Notion's API takes block objects rather than HTML, and rich text has per-object length limits.
  • Redirects, 404 handling, robots directives and sitemap control are not things you administer on a Notion-hosted site.

From content chaos to search results

Without a system

  • Content takes forever, or costs a fortune
  • Generic AI drafts never rank
  • No schema, no author, no canonical
  • Publishing is a manual copy-paste chore
  • Scaling too fast gets you flagged

With SEOPulser

  • Research to publish, fully on autopilot
  • Your answers make every draft original
  • JSON-LD and a named author on each
  • One-click publishing to your CMS
  • Cadence ramped to your site's age

What's different

Built to rank, not just to publish.

Structured data on every article

Article, FAQ, HowTo and Breadcrumb JSON-LD are generated inside the pipeline and stored with the piece, so they travel to whatever you publish to.

Real named authors

Every article is bylined to a named person with a bio and a profile page — not the brand as a schema.org Person, which Google advises against.

Your first-hand experience

Before drafting, you answer a few questions only you can, and the answers go into the piece as material a model could never have inferred.

An MCP server for the loop

Claude, Codex or your own agent reads the calendar, answers questions, queues generation and controls autopilot — over the same API the dashboard uses.

Pace matched to site age

Publishing cadence ramps against when your site was first seen, so a young domain never ships at a volume that reads as scaled content abuse.

Search Console improvements

Connect GSC and it finds near-miss rankings, CTR gaps and thin pages, then rewrites them as accept-or-reject hunks — on posts we didn't write, too.

Questions people actually ask

Does SEOPulser have a Notion integration?

Not a first-party one. The set of destinations a project can be pointed at does not include Notion, and this page exists to describe the two routes that do work: the generic webhook path, where you write a receiver that calls Notion's API, and Zapier, where a Zap creates a database item. Both put a component you own between the pipeline and Notion.

Can I use Notion as my blog and still get structured data?

Not on a page Notion serves. There is no per-page hook where a script tag can be placed, so the generated Article and FAQ graphs have nowhere to go. Some third-party Notion-to-site services render the head themselves and may expose a field for custom markup. Publish a test page through whichever one you are considering and view source before assuming it does.

What happens to article formatting when it becomes Notion blocks?

Headings, paragraphs, lists, quotes and code blocks convert cleanly. Tables, footnotes, figure captions and any embedded HTML convert poorly or not at all, and long paragraphs are split across several rich text objects because of length limits in the API. Send one real article through before you send a hundred, and look specifically at whichever of those elements your content actually uses.

Should I use the webhook route or Zapier?

Use Zapier if you want this working this week, the body fidelity is acceptable, and your volume is low enough that per-task cost does not matter. Use the webhook route if you need control over the Markdown-to-blocks conversion, want real error handling and retries, or plan to publish the same articles onward from Notion to a live site.

Can Notion approvals control what gets published?

Only if you build the return path. Moving a row from Review to Approved in Notion is a change inside Notion; nothing in the pipeline is watching for it. You would connect that state back through the REST API with a scoped key, or drive it from a Notion automation. Scope that work before you design a workflow that depends on it.

Is Notion bad for SEO?

Notion is not bad. It is built for a different job. The constraints that matter for organic search — control of the head, structured data, URL and redirect handling, and how much JavaScript stands between a crawler and your text — are all places where a publishing platform invests and a workspace tool does not. Judge it on those, on your own pages, with real measurements.
